"The primary focus of this project was the Malayan sun bear (attached photo). We were not able to positively ID all sun bears, but I did develop a method of estimating density and abundance from a modified version of a presence-absence model proposed by MacKenzie et al. (2002). So, this camera research was used to produce the first-ever empirically-based density and abundance estimates of the Malayan sun bear (Helarctos malayanus) and this information is now being used to upgrade the species from “Data Deficient” to Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List I also used the cameras to conduct a Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) population study on Sumatra during this same period (in conjunction with the bear study) and was able to produce the first density and population estimate for tigers in northern Sumatra. That study was with 32 trap sites spaced in 4 km2 grids across a 64 km2 area. Sixteen of the sites had dual cameras and triggers. None of this could have been accomplished without your camera system!
